Pablita Velarde (Santa Clara)
Traditional painter.

Pablita Velarde (b. 1918, d. 2006) was a traditional painter in the truest sense.  She often collected natural pigment and created paints from the earth.  Her art study began in the Santa Fe Indian School, under Dorothy Dunn.  She remained true to the traditional style for the remainder of her life.  Her daughter, Helen Harden also achieved greatness in Indian art.  Her works have been widely published and are in several permanent collections, including the Gilcrease Museum (Tulsa, OK), the Heard Museum (Phoenix, AZ), and the Philbrook Museum (Tulsa, OK).

The Gallery has a limited number of paintings by Pablita Velarde.
