Romando Vigil - Tse Ye Mu (San Ildefonso)
Traditional painter.

Romando Vigil / Tse Ye Mu (b. 1902, d. 1978) was one of the earliest modern Indian artists, painting as early as 1920 – with fellow San Ildefonso artists, Oqwa Pi, Julian Martinez, Crescendo Martinez and Tonita Pena.  This early San Ildefonso school set the stage for modern Indian art.   Romando Vigil later became a set design painter for Walt Disney Studios, but continued to paint detailed scenes of San Ildefonso customs and costumes.  His works are included in numerous institutional collections, including the Denver Art Museum (Denver, CO), the Gilcrease Museum (Tulsa, OK) and the Riverside Museum (New York, NY).

The Gallery has several paintings by Romando Vigil.
