Al Momaday  (Kiowa)

Al Momaday was a highly respected progressive traditional painter.  He was well known for his paintings of Kiowa dancers and horses, and won numerous important awards for his work.  He was also well respected as a leader in American Indian education for his work at Jemez Pueblo.  His works are included in such noted collections as the Philbrook Museum (Tulsa), the Southwest Museum (Los Angeles, CA) and the Gilcrease Museum (Tulsa, OK).  He was also the father of noted Indian writer and artist, N. Scott Momaday.
