Julian Martinez was a highly influential pueblo painter. He and a selected few pueblo painters (Tonita Pena, Oqwa Pi, etc.) began to establish the traditional southwest style before The Studio emerged. He also painted designs on the pottery of his wife, Maria Martinez. His works are included in numerous important collections, including the Eiteljorg Museum (Indianapolis, IN), the Philbrook Museum (Tulsa, OK), and the Millicent Rogers Museum (Taos, NM). |
