Alfred Johnson was first noticed by the
Indian
art establishment when his painting, Chungkee Yards won first place at
the Philbrook Museum Annual Competition in 1958 (the painting now hangs
in the Museum's permanent collection. He studied Indian painting
at Bacone College, under Dick West, and was one of the finest
traditional painters among the Cherokees. He has since
established
himself
as an important aviation artist (as part of the US Air Force Art Group,
and the New York Society of Graphic Artists). We are
pleased to
carry
his original New England landscapes, wildlife and Indian paintings.
The Gallery has several original
paintings by
Alfred Johnson, including some early works in the traditional style.
