David Williams (Kiowa)
Traditional and contemporary painter.
 
 

David Williams (b. 1933, d. 1985) was a highly prolific artist, of Kiowa, Tonkawa and Apache heritage.  His works focused primarily on the life of the southern plains Indians.  He was also very well known for his paintings of plains Indian dancers, which exhibited a tremendous sense of color and motion.  He studied painting under Dick West at Bacone College, and was eventually named to the Bacone Alumni Hall of Fame.  His works are included in such noted museum collections as the Heard Museum (Phoenix, AZ), the Gilcrease Museum (Tulsa, OK) and the Southwest Museum (Los Angeles, CA).
