Earl Biss was widely acknowledged as one of the foremost conteporary Indian painters during his lifetime. He studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe in the 1960s, and was an influential part of the first wave of modern American Indian artist. His work was very strongly influenced by European masters, and represented an important departure from more conventional approaches to Indian art. His works have been collected worldwide, and represented in such noted institutional collections as the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum (Santa Fe, NM). |
