Harrison Begay is generally considered to be the foremost traditional Indian painter.  He began his art studies under Dorothy Dunn at the Santa Fe Indian School, and has continued to paint in the two-dimensional flat style which he helped popularize in the 1930s.  He has won numerous awards for his work, including the French Palmes d’Academique in 1945.  His works are included in such noted museum collections as the Smithsonian Institute (Washington, DC), and the Philbrook Museum of Art (Tulsa, OK).
