Contemporary and traditional painter and printmaker.
 
 
Jean Bales is a highly acclaimed contemporary Indian painter and printmaker.  She is very well known for her "gatherer" paintings, which depict the traditional life of Iowa Indian women.  A diverse artist, her works generally fit comfortably within the "contemporary" and "traditional" classification.  Her works have been included in such noted private collections as the late artist, Helen Hardin, as well as such prominent institutional collections as The Vatican.  She has exhibited her works in several museums acrosss the country, including the Heard Museum (Phoenix, AZ), the Wheelright Museum (Santa Fe, NM), and the Southern Plains Indian Museum (Anadarko, OK).
